European Tour Profile

Lee took up golf aged 13 after his grandparents bought him a half set of clubs and was crowned junior champion of home county Nottinghamshire less than two years later.

He won his first amateur event in 1990 and turned pro in 1993 after winning the British Youth Championship. He reached the summit of golf in November 2010 when he became world number one, ending Tiger Woods’ five-year at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking.

Lee has enjoyed a glittering career, winning 42 titles around the world, including 22 on the European Tour.

He finished 2014 with victory at the Thailand Golf Championship and picked up a first win of 2015 when he won a play-off at the Indonesian Masters to take the title for the third time.

Lee is second only to Sir Nick Faldo in the list of England’s most prolific champions. He won the European Tour Order of Merit in 2000 and the inaugural Dubai World Championship and renamed Race to Dubai in 2009. He received an OBE for his service to the sport in 2012.

He has made nine consecutive appearances in the Ryder Cup since 1997 and has been on the winning side seven times, including the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ in 2012. He was unbeaten in the 2004 and 2006 tournaments and equalled Arnold Palmer’s record at Valhalla in 2008 when he made it 12 matches without defeat.

Born and bred in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, Lee was presented with honorary Doctor of Science degree from Nottingham Trent University in November 2007. He is also a keen fan of his local football team, Nottingham Forest.

Lee recently became a member and resident of Old Palm Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He now hones his game at the Club’s 33-acre Golf Studio and enjoys playing the 7,400-yard Raymond Floyd signature course. Lee and his family have made Old Palm’s Custom Estates their full-time residence while state-side for the PGA Tour.
