Biography

Following six wins as an amateur in India and a team golfing silver medal at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Anirban turned professional in 2007 and joined the ranks of the professional golf tour in India, the “PGTI”.

In 2008, his first full season on tour, he played in 13 PGTI events with five top 10 finishes, including two tied second places at The PGTI Players’ Championship and The BILT Open, the latter seeing him finish one shot back in a tie with India’s leading player, Jeev Milkha Singh. He made the cut in all the tournaments he played in and finished the season in a very creditable 8th place on the PGTI Order of Merit.

2009 saw him claim seven top 10 finishes on the PGTI and his first two professional victories at The Haryana Open and The BILT Open. This level of consistency of performance resulted in him ending the year as No 1 on the PGTI Order of Merit and winning the PGTI ‘Player of the Year’ award. He also posted five top 10 finishes on the Asian Tour, including a share of 3rd place in The Hero Honda Indian Open, following a last round of 64.

Anirban claimed three further PGTI wins in 2010, including a successful defence of his BILT Open title, and a number of top 10 finishes on the Asian Tour, the best of which was tied fourth at The Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open. He opened his 2011 campaign with a win at The Aircel PGTI Players’ Championship and is looking to consolidate his position on the Asian Tour as the season progresses.

In 2011 he won the Panasonic Open (India) at Delhi Golf Club in a play-off against Mardan Mamat and Manav Jaini. They all finished on thirteen under par during regulation play but Anirban birdied the first extra hole to land the title.

In early 2012 Anirban won the SAIL-SBI Open on the Asian Tour in Delhi. Lahiri, once again, he had to go to the first extra hole  Having missed a birdie chance on 18 for victory, he made no mistake second time around.
