Biography
Muni comes from humble beginnings. He worked as a forecaddie at the age of seven at The Karnataka Golf Association golf course and developed his swing by watching club members. He never played as an amateur and did not enjoy the luxury of working with a coach – he says that he preferred to play in tournaments than practice.
Having won his first professional victory at the PGTI’s 2008 Toyota Altis Eagleton Open event, he emerged as the latest Indian to win on The Asian Tour when he claimed a popular victory at The 2009 Hero Honda Indian Open. Pushed to the limit by Korea’s Lee Sung, Muni finally sank a 10 foot putt for birdie on the par five 18th hole to win a play-off and bag a maiden Asian Tour title in his rookie season.
He also had top 15 finishes at The Brunei Open and The Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters to end the year in 10th place on The Asian Tour Order of Merit. A memorable season was then rounded off with him being named The Asian Tour’s “Rookie of the Year” for 2009.
