Cricket Loses 20-20 Vision

Having been in South Africa over the last three weeks on holiday and business - a lot of holiday and a little business - I think cricket missed an unbelievable chance to aid the Tsunami Relief Fund. The home and English teams, crowd and television were all at Newlands in Cape Town for the Third Test, so why a 20-20 match could not have been fixed for the following day, beats me. It didn’t take much foresight to realise that everything was in place to raise at least £150,000 to aid the relief effort.

The European Tour has not been slow in launching their own appeal with an initial donation of £50,000 and contributions can be made by logging on to their website, www.europeantour.com.

Looking forward to the new season, I would like to wish Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter the best of luck as new US Tour members - Poults making his debut this week in Hawaii.

More British players than ever will be operating in America this season - the normal suspects being joined by Greg Owen, Brian Davis and Philip Price, who all collected cards at the qualifying school. They all should give a strong home flavour to Sunday night’s golf on Sky… although it will be interesting to see how much coverage they receive. Getting in contention should sort that out.

Stuart Manley carries our best wishes into his first full season on Tour along with our other three successful representatives from Tour School.

Each player will have his own set of goals, whether it be Darren Clarke trying to break into the world’s top 5 or Stuart attempting to retain his card. I hope for no more than they would wish for themselves in what promises to be an exciting year for golf and our company.

Talking of ISM, it is our intention to give you an insight into the business so if anybody would like to know anything at all about us or sports management then please email me on www.golfism.net and I will be more than happy to reply.

Finally, watch this column for a new competition starting shortly. A weekend for two at a top golfing destination could be yours.
