Six Of The Best For Top Guns The time is not too far away when we will have as many as six players in the world’s top 50... with power to add. At the end of a thrilling dunhill links championship at St.Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns which saw Graeme McDowell come within a play-off of winning, we had three players occupying positions inside the all-exempt top 50. Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood and David Howell can all look forward to a 2005 which will see them challenging for all the game’s top honours. And it is conceivable that our ISM associate Ian Poulter, McDowell himself and Paul McGinley will be joining the top three before the end of the season. McD and Howeller, who are both Manchester United supporters, are enjoying Indian summers which see them encamped on the leaderboards wherever they are playing while Westy is now swinging the club better than when he was winning every other week. No wonder I am so excited about the future of our organisation, particularly as we have plenty of potential lower down the pecking order. The young guns are muscling in on the top guns’ territory and that can only be good for everybody’s future, particularly as the rivalry is so fierce, but friendly. Watch this space very closely because the picture is ever changing.
