It never rains, but it pours in Akron. and how it pours. So much rain fell in half an hour yesterday that they postponed play for the rest of the day - thankfully I had already finished and was spared another 5am wake-up.
The two rain delays on the first day of the NEC meant that I was in and out of the wet all day long and in and out of the air conditioning. I think that's what caused the stiff neck I woke up with on Friday and it's the first I've ever had. It was disappointing to finish my second round the way I did with two bogeys in the last three holes, but I'm not altogether out of it although I was planning a more positive kind of defence of the title I won 12 months ago. This is a very good course and one that suits me so to be one-over-par with 36 holes left is not ideal. I'll probably be nine or 10 behind American Stewart Cink by the time I start my third round so I'll need a low one on Saturday. The early start and finish yesterday at least meant I could get to the cinema on Friday afternoon. My plans were to watch The Borne Supremacy, but I change my mind so often, I could have watched something else. Definitely not I, Robot though - once seeing that is more than enough. Hopefully I won't miss as many fairways on Saturday. Even when I was just off by a whisker, I still got punished and didn't make the most of the opportunities I gave myself when they came along. |
