Open Championship - They're Off In The Chubby Stakes 13.07.04
|
So far so good. It’s been both a busy, but in some ways relaxing build up to my favourite week of the year and now Thursday can’t come soon enough. The fact that I was ahead of my schedule because of missing the cut enabled me to give my caddie Pete Coleman the afternoon off so while I chilled out at my house, he was off to make a few investments at Ayr races. Hopefully he had more luck than I do when Chubby gives me certs to lose my shirt on. There was a racing connection to my Monday evening too because US Masters champion Phil Mickelson and former Troon Open champion Mark Calcavecchia both came round to the ISM host house for a barbecue. Our American guests enjoyed having a tenner or two on the televised races with Chubby acting as bookmaker. As usual, the ‘cert’ horse he gave them appeared to have three legs only and was well beaten. But everybody enjoyed themselves and they all left vowing to return throughout the week to sample our hospitality. I have continued practising long putts and from off the green most of all in my build-up sessions because I am convinced it will be a vital weapon in my armoury come Thursday. I’ve already told Kiwi Craig Perks top keep his L-wedge in his bag and get out his putter - a far more useful implement given the course. | |
