Open Championship - Round One - 15.07.04
Just when my Open looked like getting off to a flying start, the last hole jumped out and bit me.
At four under and just 191 yards from the flag at the last, out of bounds and a double bogey was not what I had in mind.   Unfortunately, I got the wind wrong and hit a five iron instead of a six.
I’ve been close to playing well for quite some time so it was particularly disappointing to do that on the last.  I didn’t hit that bad a shot, but the wind took over and that was it.   The six iron I had second time came up just 15 feet short.
I would probably have settled for 69 off the first tee this morning, but it was so disappointing to throw away two shots on the last hole.  I was seeing the line on the greens and holing some putts, but despite that ending, two under is a good start and I can’t wait to get out there again at 7.25 tomorrow morning.
Overall I played nicely today and hopefully over the next three days I can have more of the same.
