Hoping For Good Friday - 18.06.04 |
I went into the first round feeling ready for the US Open if not entirely comfortable with Shinnecock. It’s probably because a lot of the holes favour left to right shots and I hit the ball predominantly the other way. At least I was No.1 in the fashion stakes with my white trousers with red stitching, red buffalo skin belt, bright red crew neck top and red visor. The only thing missing was a No.7 and Beckham on the back, although being a Liverpool fan I really should have worn red trousers as well. I played reasonably well until the rain delay. Plus one was not that bad a score, but when we went off for the weather I quickly stiffened up and hit the ball poorly when we resumed. Still +3 wasn’t entirely a disaster and was looking forward to having a decent day on Friday. Actually, it’s about time I did something about my scoring in the US Open. I was shocked to be told that I had only broken 70 once in my entire career at this championship. With rain forecast again for Friday’s round, I opted for all black attire and then discovered their forecasters are not much better than ours. It was sunny and hot when I set off so I was expecting to lose a few pounds. | |
