First Cut Is The Deepest - 19.06.04 |
My US Open Diary has to be closed after just two days - a second round 74 to add to the opening 73 not good enough to keep me in action for the full four days at Shinnecock Hills. My first round wasn’t as good as I’d hope, but nothing too destructive. My second round unfortunately was the same as the last few weeks. I just couldn’t get anything going, didn’t make a putt and was punished severely for any mistake. Golfers know they will endure spells like these, but they don’t come any easier to take and now I’ve missed the cut in the first two Majors of the season. Still, I’ll settle for missing three as long as I win the fourth. My early finish at least pleased two people because an early flight means I’ll be at home for Father’s Day with Tyrone and Conor. Now I have a week off, but I will be practising my short game and experimenting with different kinds of putters and styles. I may even try cack-handed or the belly putter. The European Open and the Barclays Scottish Open will give me the opportunity to try to get something in place before The Open. Fortunately my game isn’t in bad shape and I’m in good shape so I feel it’s only a matter of time before things start going my way. | |
