Two’s Company For The Weekend  - 12.11.04
The scoreboard said 65 and that’s what I have to take, but, believe me, it could have been lower, much lower.
I shouldn’t complain at a 6-under round but I had two eagles in there and missed several times from inside 10 feet.  What I do know is that I played as well as I have all year which is a pity to peak so late.  It’s also left me wondering what on earth I have to do to prepare properly for a tournament because I arrived here Tuesday after 22 hours of travelling and 14 hours of jet lag.  Beats me.
At least I’m two in front going into the weekend, which is not a situation I have been too familiar with this season.  The crowds here have been very supportive and I’m hoping to repay them with my first win of the year.
Somebody who could still give me a run for my money over the next two days is good friend Lee Westwood, who may be six shots back but definitely not out of it.   Unfortunately he’s got an acute case of Tokyo Tummy so it depends on how much energy has been sapped out of him.
I’ve been able to get plenty of rest here and inbetween sleeping and playing I’ve been able to show my prowess on the table tennis table against Lee’s caddie John Grahame and Graeme McDowell’s caddie Matt Harbour and bio-mechanic Adam Griffin.  So far I haven’t lost one game but I understand Lee ’Chester Barnes’ Westwood and Chubby are about to issue a challenge. They’ll both be helping me with the 309 cans of Asahi Super Dry we have to make inroads into on the three-hour coach journey back to Tokyo.  I have already ensured that our transport has a toilet on board.
