The banter is already starting in the team room and I expect it to intensify as the week progresses. We don’t have a Rugby Union-style judge and jury, but I expect a few fines of the alcoholic variety will be handed out on Sunday night win, lose or draw. Any faux pas in the team room is jumped on very quickly. Put a foot or say a word out of line and half a dozen guys jump down your throat immediately. It all helps towards the team spirit and keeps us all relaxed. We had the Welcome Dinner for the two teams last night and we mingled and chatted with the Americans although there wasn’t too much Mickey taking. My practice with David Howell and Paul Casey went well. I remembered a few holes but not the entire course, but was reminded just how tough the greens are. The short stick is going to be a very influential weapon this week. Butch Harmon came out for a few holes to check on my swing and while we were out there a fan called out: ‘Hey Butch, stop coaching him and phone Tiger’. I’m not going to bet on it, but it shows that people over here do wish the pair of them would settle their differences and get back together. |
