We’re fit, eager and ready to go… and I just can’t wait to get the matches on the way. I have no idea who I am playing against and I’m not bothered who it is. We are here as 12 players with just one goal - to secure 14½ points for Europe. Mission accomplished will mean the Ryder Cup comes home with us. My only regret so far is that I haven’t been able to bring my Jaguar with me because the courtesy cars here don’t seem to go above 10mph… and I’ve never been one for doing things at that pace. I’m paired in the fourballs with Miguel Angel Jiminez and I couldn’t have wished for a more in-form partner. He’s played great week in, week out and if he continues in that vein will be just fine. Miguel has taken to calling me FFB - the first two letters stand for Former Fat and I’ll leave you to work out the last. Captain Langer probably paired us because we smoke the same kind of cigars and hopefully we’ll be on fire when we set out tomorrow. Our final official function was the Gala Dinner and I understand Monty caused a bit of a stir back home by being pictured with a mystery blonde on his arm. It wasn’t a mystery to us because she was the lady getting ready to show us to our places and Monty, who had never seen her before in his life, just said: ’You’re coming in with me, let’s go’. The lady went along with the gag and we all had a good laugh about it. Monty’s been in great form in the team room. He’s a natural leader and hopefully he will play as he has in all previous Ryder Cups. So this is it. I hope you all follow our progress on television and catch up here with my thoughts and feelings of what’s happening at Oakland Hills. |
