The World Cup Final |
Sachin Tendulkar |
The World Cup has been a bit disappointing
overall, but it does have the chance to go out on a very high note
with a final between the best two teams.
Australia and India meet in Johannesburg and I firmly believe the
outcome depends on just one man out of 22.
If Sachin Tendulkar can bat for between 35 and 40 overs then those
who believe the World Cup has always had Australia's name on it
will be in for something of a surprise. |
We know what Australia
are going to come out and produce and we know what India are capable
of doing, it's just whether they can do it when it matters most.
Australia like to bully people and it is up to the top Indian batsmen
to see off the first 15 overs, build a platform for a big score
and get stuck into the lesser bowlers.
Tendulkar has been far and away the highest scoring batsman and
I just hope he has saved a few because if India are to produce a
big score or chase one then the little master will have to be batting
for a long time.
Skipper Ganguly may have scored three tons, but two were against
Kenya and the other Zimbabwe so he has not actually been sniffing
leather for much of the time. It will be interesting to see how
he goes on when Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath are letting him have
it.
With Sehwag out of sorts, much if not all rests on Tendulkar although
Dravid is another brilliant batsman capable of match-winning feats.
India's seamers have done an admirable job, but I can see Australia
targeting the fifth bowler or the combination used to make up the
overs.
It should make for a fascinating final and if Tendulkar delivers
then Australia's magnificent run may well be at an end.
