But Vaughan said outside distractions should not affect team performance on the eve of the series deciding Test in Chittagong, Bangladesh’s second city.
“In this part of the world, if you want excuses there will always be excuses there for you,” said Vaughan. “It’s just a matter of getting on with the cricket. We have to keep our minds on the job because Bangladesh are a difficult team to beat”.
Vaughan’s problems intensified yesterday when nine-wicket First Test hero Steve Harmison pulled out injured.
England will probably keep two spinners in the side which means a reprieve for Vaughan’s close friend and colleague Ashley Giles, who has not impressed of late and may surrender the No.1 spinner’s role to Gareth Batty.
“Friendship and team selection don’t come into any
selection,” said Vaughan. “Ashley has changed a few things technically and he should remember that he is only one match away from being back to his best”.
