Els, Goosen and Westwood Share the Lead in South Africa

Ernie Els
European Tour Members Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Lee Westwood share the lead with Australian Stuart Appleby after the first round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City, South Africa.

All four players carded two under par rounds of 70 over the Gary Player Country Club as the elite, 12 man field completed their first rounds.

The South African duo of Els and Goosen finished strongly to join Appleby and Westwood at the top of the leaderboard, World Number Three Els completing the back nine in just 33 strokes and Goosen – the World Number Four – birdieing his last two holes to get to two under.

Sergio Garcia
The USA’s Chris di Marco joins Zimbabwe’s Nick Price in a tie for fifth on one under par, with Open Champion Todd Hamilton and Jim Furyk – both of the USA – posting the next best scores of two over par.

Spain’s Sergio Garcia – who is defending the Nedbank Golf Challenge title – and Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobsen are one behind Hamilton and Furyk, alongside America’s Jay Haas.
