The US Open Champion carded a final round of three under par 69 for a seven under total of 281 to win by an incredible six shots, as the majority of the 12 man field struggled in blustery conditions at the uncompromising Gary Player Country Club in Sun City. Many of the world’s top players struggled on the final day, with overnight leader Lee Westwood of England posting an eight over par 80 to fall back to three over, while Zimbabwe’s Nick Price took 78 to post a five over par aggregate. Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobsen was four shots worse off than Price and finished tenth, while Sergio Garcia of Spain – who defeated Goosen in a play-off for the Nedbank Golf Challenge last season – finished last on 15 over par. Europe’s Number One, Ernie Els, joined Australian Stuart Appleby in a tie for second place on one under par, but the day deservedly belonged to Goosen. Courtesy of www.europeantour.com |
