Parnevik moves into second place in Hawaii
European Tour Member Jesper Parnevik carded a five under par 65 to move into second place after the first round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, two shots adrift of leader Carlos Franco.

The Swede – a member of the winning European Ryder Cup team at The De Vere Belfry in 2002 – posted six birdies in total around the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, his only dropped shot of the day coming at the eighth, his 17th after having started at the tenth.

Six players tied for third place after respective 66s including Parnevik’s fellow European Tour Member Luke Donald of England, while defending champion Ernie Els, the 2003 Volvo Order of Merit winner, opened with a 67.

Most of the attention on day one centred around 14 year old schoolgirl Michelle Wie who became the youngest person ever to play in a US PGA Tour event and who carded a highly respectable two over par 72.
