European Tour Member Cabrera, twice a winner on The European Tour International Schedule, was lying alongside Haas and Maruyama at the top of the leaderboard when he returned to the course early this morning to complete his first round following the storm and fog delays of the first day.
He briefly moved into the outright lead with a birdie on the 14th but just as he got his nose in front, double bogeyed the 15th to fall one behind. He immediately bounced back with a second birdie of the morning on the 16th to re-join the three-way tie at the top and safely negotiated the remaining two holes in par for a commendable opening round of 66.
World Number Three Vijay Singh completed an opening 68, two under par, to join fellow European Tour Member Ben Curtis, the reigning Open Champion, in the group of nine players on two under that also includes Masters Champion Phil Mickelson.
Among the other players who completed their first rounds was 2001 US Open Champion Retief Goosen, the South African posting a level par 70 while Irelandís Padraig Harrington, beaten in a play-off by Sergio Garcia in last weekís Buick Classic, shot a three over par 73.
