Europe's Victorious Ryder Cup Players return for The Heritage

One of the most eagerly awaited tournaments of the year, The Heritage, will grace the fairways of the Duke’s Course at Woburn Golf and Country Club this week from September 23-26.

European Ryder Cup heroes Colin Montgomerie, Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter, David Howell, and the team’s assistant captain Thomas Bjorn will all compete in the exciting new €2,000,000 event.

Also competing will be US Open champion Retief Goosen from South Africa, who is currently in second place on the Volvo Order of Merit.

On the golf course Europe’s finest will make their contribution to this significant event by producing more golf of the highest quality.

The Heritage represents a great opportunity for Goosen to close the gap on his compatriot Ernie Els on the Volvo Order of Merit..

Goosen has earned €1,976,893 so far this year and currently trails Els by €412,115. The winners’cheque of €330,330 will certainly help Goosen move closer to the top and give him a chance of finishing the year as Europe’s number one player – a feat he achieved in 2001 and 2002.

Three other members of Europe's Ryder Cup team Paul Casey, Paul McGinley and Thomas Levet were initially hoping to play but decided to withdraw in order to fully recover from the exertions of last week.

Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle, Greg Norman, Lee Trevino and Ian Woosnam, all winners of Major Championships, have enjoyed success at Woburn. No fewer than 16 editions of the British Masters have been played at the venue, the most recent being in 2002 when England’s Justin Rose won over the Marquess Course.
