Browne Storms to the top of the Red Bull Final5 Standings |

Irishman Stephen Browne battled the wind and rain at the JJB Sports North West Challenge to a brilliant winning score of eight under par in the latest round of the Red Bull Final5 competition. He finished three shots clear of his closest rival and also shot to the top of the Final5 Order of Merit. Browne had to produce two birdies on his last five holes just to make the cut. He then scorched the course with a string of four birdies on the Final5 in the third round to head the field for the Red Bull prize, which he held on to over the fourth round. |
Browne’s performance at the Marriott Worsley Park Golf and Country Club earned him €1,400 and rushed him to the top of the Red Bull Final5 Order of Merit with grand total of €1,740.
“I noticed I was leading the Final5 after the third round,” said Browne after receiving his €1400. “I had been four over par on the front nine and then got it back on track over the final five holes. I thought to myself as I came to the end of the last round ‘If I can keep it together over the Final5 I can still get something here’. Thankfully I did.”
Browne, who has had a promising year on the Challenge Tour – he shot the best single round score of the year, a 10 under par 62 at the Texbond Open two weeks ago – continued: “It’s a cracking competition because it’s all about how Red Bull can help you on the course. I have been spending a lot of time on my swing recently on the range and I use Red Bull there and when I’ve used it on the course it’s really helped.”
The Red Bull Final5 – a competition that rewards the player who performs the best over the final five holes – is being played at 10 events on the Challenge Tour this year. After the last event the top six players on the Order of Merit will play a shoot-out to determine the Final5 Champion at the Donnington Grove English Challenge Open in Newbury, Berkshire from 14-17 October.
