Scott Heads in Pursuit of Appleby at Bay Hill |

Stuart Appleby accelerated away from the field in the Bay Hill Invitational, Presented by MasterCard, as fellow Australian and European Tour Member, Adam Scott, stepped up his bid for a second title on the US PGA Tour in Florida. Appleby fired a six under par 66 for a 16 under par total of 200, four ahead of American Chad Campbell and six in front of Scott. |
Appleby, who won the season-opening Mercedes Championships at Kapalua, Hawaii, assumed the leadership as halfway pace-setter, Shigeki Maruyama of Japan and Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke both dropped back with rounds of 75 and 74 respectively to lie fourth and tied fifth.
Scott shot a four under par 68 to make his move into the top three while Clarke shares fifth with American John Daly, with Spain’s Sergio Garcia and Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden tied for ninth on 209 and England’s Justin Rose tied 13th with Vijay Singh of Fiji on 210.
Trying to become the first player to win the same tournament five straight years, Tiger Woods saw his challenge terminated with a second successive round of 75 to lie 15 strokes behind Appleby.
