Dream Day for Sportism.net Competition Winners

Liam Collins and Paul Gosling will never forget Sunday 17 October 2004! They were the winners of our recent Website Competitions, their prize being a place each in the ISM Charity Golf Day at the exclusive Mere Golf and Country Club in the heart of Cheshire.

The previous evening a draw was held for the celebrity players in each team, Liam and Paul were drawn with Darren Clarke and could not believe their luck! Making up the fourball was Francois Bruyns who works for Pinnacle Point in South Africa, one of Darren's sponsors.

Twenty one teams played in the event and Sportism.net finished  in a very creditable thirteenth place with 68 points, especially as they had to have a few pre-tournament drinks to calm their nerves for the big day! Highlights of the round were Paul's birdie two at the third, Liam's birdie three at the seventeenth and Francois' miracle escape from a rhododendron bush! Darren was in sparkling form and they definitely had a day to remember, each having their photograph with Darren and the Ryder Cup, which was on display at the event!

Darren's caddy for the day was Ed Parker from Crewe Golf Club, a scratch handicapper and Cheshire Team player, he had a great time caddying for the big man and for his toils Darren kindly presented him with a TaylorMade R7 Driver.

A host of other sports stars played in the event including Graeme McDowell, David Howell, Michael Vaughan, Freddie Flintoff, Geraint Jones, Paul Collingwood, James Anderson and Steve Harmison.

The winning team was Morson No 2, they scored 83 points playing with cricketer Warren Hegg. Runners-up were Morson No 1 with 81 points, playing with ex Rugby League star and fitness coach, Steve Hampson. In third place was Sporting Index Sharks also on 81 points, playing with newly crowned Captain of Lancashire Cricket Club, Mark Chilton.

D M Robinson, Jewellers generously donated the stunning prizes for all our winners.

The event raised in excess of 75,000 to be shared between the Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund, Alderhey Childrens Hospital, Childrens Adventure Farm Trust and Destination Florida.

"It was a fantastic day for everyone involved, particularly raising so much money for the selected charities. I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the teams who entered, the celebrities who gave their valuable time, and especially Mark Boler, Chairman of Mere Golf and Country Club who provided the golf course, drinks and meals." Said Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler, Managing Director of ISM.
