Well done Chris Wood after knocking off his first win as a professional in fine style.
It was always going to be a question of time and when Chris got a smell of the finishing line in Bangkok he wasted no time claiming a prize he will remember for the rest of his life.
A brilliant five under par closing 67 gave Chris a two-shot win in the Thailand Open and I have no doubt that there will be plenty more to come from the Bristolian.
Ever since he showed what a talent he is when claiming the top amateur’s silver medal in the Open after finishing joint fifth at Royal Birkdale in 2008 followed by third place at Turnberry the following year as a professional, it was only a matter of gaining experience.
That came through finishing close quite often and he put it all to good use at the birdiefest in Asia. The grainy greens at Suwan seemed to suit Chris and, even though there was an hour-long monsoon delay with just two holes to play, he remained calm and collected.
Among those behind the 18th to offer their congratulations were fellow Englishmen David Horsey and Richard Finch who both finished in the top 25 and waited behind despite finishing much earlier. Aussie Scott Arnold finished a good week for himself and ISM in tenth place.
Joost Luiten also gained a great deal of experience at the US PGA when a final round 69 left him just outside the top 20 alongside Louis Oosthuizen as our top finishers at the last major of the season.
There were good final rounds for Alexandre Kaleka and Ben An at the Norwegian Challenge lifting them into the top ten.
