A top Matt finish for 2013

I would like to wish everybody the happiest of Christmas holidays and a very prosperous New Year

Matt Baldwin didn’t quite make it into the winner’s enclosure, but second in the Nelson Mandela Championship was not only his highest ever European Tour finish, but also the sign of things to come.

Matt wasn’t the only one to impress in South Africa because Frenchman Romain Wattel was fourth and he too looks to have a very promising future.

Across the Atlantic, Lee Westwood, who was partnered by Ian Poulter, was third at the Franklin Templeton Shootout while across another ocean, Charl Schwartzel finished up just short in his defence of the Thailand Golf Championship. There will be plenty more to come from Lee and Charl next year.

It would be remiss of me not to include cricket in my column this week.  Although I will not dwell on the loss of the Ashes, I would like to register my own congratulations on a magnificent maiden Test century for Ben Stokes.

And finally… I would like to wish all my readers, ISM’s players and their sponsors, the staff and everybody else the happiest of Christmas holidays and a very prosperous New Year.
