Our next wave of emerging ISM talent is fast identifying itself and newcomer Clement Sordet can be added to that list after less than two months as a professional.

The stylish Frenchman came into the winner's enclosure in just his fourth start in the paid ranks - impressing everybody as he claimed the Northern Ireland title.

Tied third after three rounds, the 22-year-old showed maturity beyond his years to pick up a maiden victory just two weeks after another ISM client, Ryan Fox, also won on the Challenge Tour.

Over in America, Lee Westwood and Danny Willett both finished in the top 20 at the WGC Bridgestone event in Akron and will feel full of confidence heading to this week's final major, the U.S. PGA Championship at Whistling straits in Wisconsin.

Lee putted better than he has for some time with only just over 100 putts for the week and the credit for that goes to the player who gave him a pre-tournament putting lesson.  You guessed it, Danny was the tutor.

I can't finish this week's column without making special reference to one of our Ashes winning cricketers.

His performances throughout the series mean that he will go to The Oval next week as the world's No. 1 batsman.

Joe Root's new status is thoroughly deserved.
