Biography

Matthew turned professional in 2008 after a very successful amateur career during which he was English Boys Captain. He played his first season as a professional on The Alps Tour and recorded six top 10s which put him 23rd on the Alps Tour Order of Merit in 2009. With four guaranteed starts in the French Challenge Tour events in 2010 and additional invites to tournaments, Matthew gained a high ranking in category 11 on The Challenge Tour for 2011.

His best finish in 2010 was tied fourth in the Moroccan Golf Classic and at the beginning of 2011, Matthew finished 4th on his own in the Gujarat Kensville Challenge in India which leaves him feeling confident for the season.

His real breakthrough came towards the end of the 2011 season when he captured his maiden Challenge Tour title winning the Fred Olsen Challenge de Espana after beating Julien Guerrier in a play-off. He then went on to finish 10th in the Challenge Tour Rankings which earned him a European Tour card for the 2012 season.

Matthew finished in a tie for 10th place at the The Africa Open in January 2012, his first appearance as a card-carrying European Tour member, .
